The New England Herpetological Society (NEHS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of reptiles and amphibians, the advancement of herpetological education, and the fostering of a welcoming community for enthusiasts and the curious alike. We connect people with opportunities to learn, participate, and support the responsible study and protection of herpetofauna throughout New England.
Founded in 1972 as the Massachusetts Herpetological Society, we began as a local community for individuals passionate about the study and conservation of reptiles and amphibians. As interest and membership grew beyond Massachusetts, we expanded our scope to represent the broader New England region and became the New England Herpetological Society.
For more than 50 years, NEHS has supported herpetological education and conservation through field events, educational programs, published resources, research and conservation grants, and advocacy for responsible, ethical practices that protect native species and their habitats.
We promote learning and understanding of reptiles and amphibians through meetings, lectures, field trips, publications, and community outreach.
We support conservation efforts that protect native herpetofauna and their habitats, including research grants, advocacy, and partnerships with like-minded organizations.
We encourage the study and responsible practice of herpetology by providing members with opportunities to deepen their knowledge and actively participate in the field.
The New England Herpetological Society (NEHS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the education, conservation, and responsible stewardship of reptiles and amphibians in New England. As a nonprofit, all programs, field trips, and educational initiatives are run by volunteers and funded to benefit the community and support herpetology education and conservation efforts throughout the region.
